A refrigeration emergency can happen at any time. At Dry Ice International, we understand the importance of acting quickly to prevent any spoilage. We offer dry ice for refrigeration emergencies. Dry Ice is also well known for its high-quality dry ice for boreholes Β andΒ  dry ice for cocktails and drinks .

What is a Refrigeration Emergency or Cooling Crisis?

A cooling crisis or refrigeration emergency is when your refrigeration equipment is unable to maintain a specific temperature due to external factors. This can happen due to various reasons:

Power outages: An unexpected power cut can leave your food unrefrigerated for hours, leading to spoilage.

Equipment breakdowns: Refrigerator breakdowns can happen due to mechanical failures, thermostat malfunctions, or other technical issues.

Water supply problems: If your refrigerator uses a water connection for features like an ice dispenser, a water supply issue can disrupt its cooling ability.

Power outages from Eskom or your local city council for longer than six hours; catastrophic failures of refrigeration equipment; Water cooling failures due to breakdowns or water shortages; Peak season demand; Extreme summer temperatures; or Natural disasters.

Dry Ice for your Cooling Crisis

If you are faced with a cooling crisis, dry ice, also known as solid carbon dioxide, offers several advantages:

Extreme Cold: Dry ice boasts a temperature of -79Β°C, significantly colder than standard freezers.

Portable and Easy to Use: Unlike generators, dry ice is lightweight, portable, and doesn’t require any complicated setup.

What is dry ice?

It is frozen carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). The temperature of dry ice is -79 Β°C. It is a non-toxic, non-flammable, food-grade product. It sublimates from a solid to a gas – no liquid or water is produced. The sublimation creates the cooling effect. The energy value is 570 kJ/kg.

How to use dry ice

Place on top of perishable products, as the cold gas is heavier than air and will therefore flow down through the products.

Where can I obtain dry ice?

National distribution network: 24/7, 365 days per year.

All hours: 010 040 3201

Additional Tips During a Refrigeration Emergency:

Here are some quick tips to minimize spoilage before acquiring dry ice:

Minimize fridge opening: Limit opening the refrigerator door to maintain the cold air inside for as long as possible.

Group food together: Consolidate your food items to create a larger cold mass, slowing down the temperature rise.
